Basketball Recap: Nanwalek Drops Highest Score of Season Against Birchwood Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nanwalek). Everything went their way against the Birchwood Christian Warriors on Friday as Nanwalek made off with a 78-57 win. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded Nanwalek with their most commanding win of the season.

Despite the defeat, Birchwood Christian saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mi'Chale Bugh dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Bugh a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Karsten Wetzel, who posted four points and five steals.

Nanwalek's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Birchwood Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-13.

Looking ahead, Nanwalek will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Cook Inlet Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Cook Inlet Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Nanwalek likes a good challenge. Birchwood Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
