Basketball Game Preview: Callaway Chargers vs. Columbus Falcons

Callaway has gone 6-1 against Columbus recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Callaway Chargers will face off against the Columbus Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Callaway knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Columbus likes a good challenge.

Callaway can't be too worried about heading out to take on Columbus: they just beat Vicksburg at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Callaway came out on top against Vicksburg by a score of 58-46 on Saturday. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Gators are ranked 71st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jahanna Wilson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 25 points and five steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 22 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jernae Ringgold, who posted 13 points along with five assists and three steals.

Callaway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Columbus hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 33-32 win over Ridgeland.

Callaway is also on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.2 points per game. As for Columbus, their victory bumped their record up to 8-14.

Everything came up roses for Callaway against Columbus in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as the team secured a 56-21 win. Does Callaway have another victory up their sleeve, or will Columbus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
