Baseball Recap: Ten Straight Home Wins for Yorkville Christian

Yorkville Christian came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Serena Huskers as they made off with a 9-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Nolan Hooper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 16 Ks. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Yorkville Christian let Austin Vugteveen and Tyler Gleason run wild. Vugteveen went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Gleason went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Vugteveen is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Seng, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Yorkville Christian's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Serena, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-16.
