Baseball Recap: Shadow Mountain Comes Up Short

Shadow Mountain had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 9-16-1 to make it four. They lost 17-9 to the St. Mary's Knights. The Matadors were not able to make up for their defeat to the Knights from their previous meeting back in April of 2022.

Alex Forkum made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Shadow Mountain's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 6-15-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Andy Chaplick, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

As for St. Mary's, their win bumped their record up to 15-11. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

On St. Mary's side, Javier Romero made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Romero posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luis Mejia, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Alfonso Ochoa was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

As of now, neither Shadow Mountain nor St. Mary's have any future games scheduled.
