Basketball Recap: Willow Canyon Wildcats vs. Apollo Hawks
Make it 13 blowout wins for the Willow Canyon Wildcats this season. They put the hurt on Apollo with a sharp 82-59 win on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for Willow Canyon who now have five in a row.
Leading Willow Canyon to victory were Kaleel Kelly and Braylon Haman. Kelly dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds, while Haman scored 25 points along with six assists and five steals. Haman is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jaxsen Williams was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Apollo lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being DeQuean Bryant, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Elijah White, who scored ten points.
Willow Canyon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 41.3 points. As for Apollo, their loss dropped their record down to 16-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Willow Canyon will challenge the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Paradise Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Apollo, they will head out on the road to challenge the Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Centennial is ranked 51st, while the Hawks are ranked 45th).
