Softball Recap: Xavier College Prep Takes Down O'connor in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Xavier College Prep walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the O'Connor Eagles 2-0. This was a revenge game for the Gators: when they faced off against the Eagles on Wednesday, they had to take a 6-2 defeat.

The result came thanks to Sydney Root's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Xavier College Prep's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Joie Ramos, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Xavier College Prep is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for O'Connor, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 23-12.

Xavier College Prep wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 6-0 win against Queen Creek on the 19th. O'Connor does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
