Recap: Tanque Verde Hawks vs. Sahuarita Mustangs
After flying high against the Empire Ravens last Friday, the Tanque Verde Hawks came back down to earth. Tanque Verde took a serious blow against Sahuarita on Thursday, falling 67-31. Tanque Verde lost against Sahuarita in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 81-13 score last time.
Despite the loss, Tanque Verde saw an underclassman step up: Layla O'Rourke-Slone dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. O'Rourke-Slone scored a full 35.5% of Tanque Verde's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Sahuarita had a senior duo take command as Kealey Myhre scored 17 points along with three steals and Karol Ortiz scored 13 points along with four steals. The match was Myhre's third in a row with at least ten points. Camila Villalobos was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Tanque Verde's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Sahuarita, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.
Tanque Verde won't have much time to rest: their next match is against San Miguel at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. San Miguel comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 15 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Sahuarita won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Canyon del Oro at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. Canyon del Oro comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
