Softball Recap: Manchester Finds Playoff Glory Versus Canton South

It's playoff time, and Manchester had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Canton South Wildcats an 11-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Panthers have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Rachel Baker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Cassidy Perry was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lilly Konen, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Manchester hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.

Manchester has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Canton South, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.

As of now, neither Manchester nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
