5A District 5 recap October 8, 2013

Albuquerque fell to Moriarty 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Highland made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,807 from 10,314. The improvement was largely due to a 54-0 victory over the Hornets last week.

6-foot-2 quarterback Bryan Medina of Highland is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,126. He has also thrown 10 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Martin Ortiz. The Atrisco Heritage Academy star has 12 catches for 337 yards.

The most important game in 5A District 5 this week will be the match up between Atrisco Heritage Academy and Valley. The Jaguars enters the contest ranked 14th in the state, while the Vikings ranks second.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Atrisco Heritage Academy takes on Valley. Coach Johnson's team has allowed 75 points this season, while Enrico Marcelli's team has given up 80. The Jaguars allowed 28 points last week as they lost to Rio Rancho.

The Vikings led the league in scoring this week after putting up 31 points on Manzano.
