After a string of three wins, Valley Heights's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Oakley Plainsmen by a score of 2-1. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Plainsmen 25-12 in the first set.

Valley Heights actually scored more points across those three sets (68-62), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 12-25, 25-22, 25-21.

Ava Smith paced Valley Heights' offense, picking up 26 kills. Smith got some help from Paige Miller and her 38 assists. Miller and Smith didn't slow down when it came to serving: they led the team with two apiece.

Valley Heights' loss dropped their record down to 30-10. As for Oakley, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 38-4.

Coincidentally, Valley Heights and Oakley will both be playing Jefferson County North the next time they take the court. The Mustangs will host the Chargers at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Plainsmen will play them later in the day, at 3:00 p.m.
