Softball Preview: Rochester Rockets vs. Glenwood Titans
Rochester is 1-9 against Glenwood since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Rockets will host the Titans at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Rochester barely beat Springfield the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rockets were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over the Senators on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rockets.
Meanwhile, Glenwood had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it 14 on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Chargers a 16-0 shutout.
Alyvia Streb looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ryleigh Kiel was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Taryn Griffith, who went 2-for-4 with two triples and three RBI.
Glenwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Centennial only posted an OBP of .200.
Glenwood pushed their record up to 23-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Rochester, their victory bumped their record up to 20-6.
