Basketball Recap: A.W. Poke's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ozanam over Frontier School of Excellence

Ozanam suffered their closest defeat since November 20, 2023 on Thursday. They fell just short of Frontier School of Excellence by a score of 55-53. Ozanam was probably out for revenge after losing 65-62 to them when the teams met back in February, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ozanam lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being A.W. Poke, who went 9 of 19 en route to 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That was a full 41.5% of Ozanam's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Alford, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards.

Even though they lost, Ozanam was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Jakeem Davis was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten steals for Frontier School of Excellence. Those 16 points gave Davis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Henry Uti, who had ten points and seven steals.

Ozanam's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Frontier School of Excellence, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Ozanam will host St. Vincent de Paul Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Ozanam is facing St. Vincent de Paul Academy at the right time seeing as St. Vincent de Paul Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Frontier School of Excellence and Guadalupe Centers will compete for holiday cheer at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
