The Venice Indians will face off against the Sarasota Sailors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Venice will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Venice is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over Riverview Sarasota. The game was the first time the Indians have beaten the Rams on their field since April 18, 2023.
Jayde Neptune spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Venice saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylin Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Sarasota's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 7-4 to Venice. Sailors fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Indians since on Tuesday.
Gemma Mulhollen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Ashlan Guengerich was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Gianna Williams was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Sarasota's loss dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Venice, their win bumped their record up to 18-5.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Venice has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Sarasota struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
