Baseball Game Preview: Ezekiel Academy Knights vs. Wiregrass Kings

Ezekiel Academy and Wiregrass are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. Ezekiel Academy will host Wiregrass at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Ezekiel Academy beat Southern Christian 6-3. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Jude Easterling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on ten hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nemo Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Colt Taylor, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wiregrass). Everything went their way against Tuscaloosa Home Educators on Saturday as Wiregrass made off with an 18-5 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Kings with their most commanding win of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Wiregrass and bumps their season record up to 4-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Ezekiel Academy, their win bumped their record up to 2-11.

Ezekiel Academy beat Wiregrass 5-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Ezekiel Academy repeat their success, or does Wiregrass has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
