Softball Recap: North East Carolina Prep Extends Winning Streak to Three

North East Carolina Prep had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hertford County Bears a 15-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-0 back in March.

Savannah Babb was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Jordyn Harvin was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Natalie Bunting, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

North East Carolina Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

North East Carolina Prep pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hertford County, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North East Carolina Prep will venture away from home to square off against Bertie at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hertford County, they will head out to face off against Camden County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
