Preview: Darien Blue Wave vs. Staples Wreckers
Darien has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Staples Wreckers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Darien knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Staples likes a good challenge.
Darien pushed their score all the way to 65 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-65 to St. Joseph. Darien has not had much luck with St. Joseph recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Meanwhile, Staples faced Stamford in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Staples fell just short of Stamford by a score of 60-57. Staples just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Staples' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sam Clachko, who scored 24 points, and Mason Tobias who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tobias has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Bowman, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Darien bumped their record down to 3-7 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Staples, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4.
Things could have been worse for Darien, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-39 loss to Staples in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Will Darien have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
