Basketball Recap: Payson Piles Up the Points Against San Tan Foothills

There's no place like home for Payson, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past the San Tan Foothills Sabercats 61-28 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Longhorns have posted since November 28, 2023.

Payson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Omar Fierro-Nava, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 14 points and four steals. Fierro-Nava has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Landon Hansen, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Payson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

The win snapped Payson's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-12 record. As for San Tan Foothills, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-10.

Payson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 52-32 loss against Snowflake on the 23rd. San Tan Foothills has also already played their next matchup, a 69-41 defeat against Northwest Christian on the 23rd.
