Preview: Providence Pioneers vs. New Albany Bulldogs
The Providence Pioneers will be playing at home against the New Albany Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Providence scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Henryville 75-40 at home. Providence has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.
Meanwhile, New Albany didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Columbus East on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 72-68 win. Given New Albany's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Columbus East is ranked 223rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The win was the fourth in a row for Providence, bringing their record for this year to 14-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for New Albany, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
Providence skirted past New Albany 31-29 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Will Providence repeat their success, or does New Albany have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
