Baseball Recap: Paso Robles Takes a Loss

Paso Robles extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 10-11-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the San Luis Obispo Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-3 defeat on Wednesday.

Paso Robles got a good showing from Nate Contreras, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.

On the hitting side, Paso Robles saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blayne Lowry, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Talen Freitas, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for San Luis Obispo, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On San Luis Obispo's side, Landon Drenckpohl was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey Stephens, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Bearcats (ranked 250th) will meet Templeton (ranked 538th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, San Luis Obispo will square off against Cabrillo at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (282 vs. 700).
