Basketball Recap: Desert Oasis Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Spring Valley

On Thursday, Desert Oasis faced Spring Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Desert Oasis Diamondbacks fell just short of the Spring Valley Grizzlies by a score of 53-50. The Diamondbacks haven't had much luck with the Grizzlies recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the loss, Desert Oasis had strong showings from Kazel Jones, who posted eight points along with eight rebounds and five steals, and Kayleigh Upham, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Upham is becoming a predictor of Desert Oasis' success: when she posts at least eight boards the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Bermudez, who earned ten points and four steals.

Mia Ervin had an outrageously good game for Spring Valley as she had 28 points. Another player making a difference was Mckenyia Pittman, who posted 12 points.

Desert Oasis' defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Spring Valley, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Desert Oasis didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-7 loss against Bishop Gorman on the 11th. As for Spring Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 61-38 victory against Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas on the 9th.
