Basketball Recap: Katy Taylor Takes a Loss

Katy Taylor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 76-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mayde Creek Rams. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 625th, while the Rams are ranked 249th).

Mayde Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jamal Chretien II out in front who posted 19 points and five boards. Chretien II continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Christian Gibson, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Katy Taylor's loss dropped their record down to 6-21. As for Mayde Creek, they now have a winning record of 15-14.

Looking ahead, Katy Taylor will venture away from home to face off against Morton Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Katy Taylor is facing Morton Ranch at the right time seeing as Morton Ranch is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Mayde Creek, they will welcome Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mayde Creek's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matchups.
