Football Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Coronado

On Monday, Centennial faced Coronado in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Centennial Bulldogs fell just short of the Coronado Cougars by a score of 24-21. The Bulldogs lost against the Cougars in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 24-0 score last time.

Even if they lost, Centennial's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. McKena Beverly was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two herself. She has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last eight times she's played. Another thorn in Coronado's side was Angela Loft, who picked up a sack, made ten total tackles, and defended one pass.

Centennial is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8. As for Coronado, their victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4.

Centennial and Basic will meet in a canine-themed contest at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Coronado, they will be playing at home against Durango at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Coronado's defense has only allowed 11.3 points per game this season, so Durango's offense will have their work cut out for them.
