Softball Game Preview: Elk Rapids Elks vs. St. Mary Eagles

The Elk Rapids Elks will head out to take on the St. Mary Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Elk Rapids is coming into the match hot, having won their last 17 games.

On Monday, Elk Rapids sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Kingsley.

Coraline Rainey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brooke Fluty, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, St. Mary came up short against Traverse City Christian on Monday, falling 16-5. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Elk Rapids' win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-3. As for St. Mary, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Elk Rapids skirted past St. Mary 7-5 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Elks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
