Basketball Game Preview: Veterans Warhawks vs. Coffee Trojans

Two dominant forwards in Tristen Abner and Khyolic Paulk are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Veterans Warhawks will venture away from home to take on the Coffee Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Veterans is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Houston County just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They received a blow as they fell 61-46 to the Bears. While losing is never fun, the Warhawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Bears are ranked 37th).

Meanwhile, Coffee had to endure a ten-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Atkinson County 46-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since November 25, 2024.

Veterans better keep an eye on Tico Smith. He was instrumental in Coffee's win, putting up 16 points. Those 16 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Bazell, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Coffee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Veterans' defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Coffee, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-15.

Veterans strolled past Coffee when the teams last played on January 3rd by a score of 68-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Veterans since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
