Soccer Game Preview: Great Bridge vs. Nansemond River

Great Bridge is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will be playing at home against the Nansemond River Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Great Bridge's defense has only allowed 0.5 goals per game this season, so Nansemond River's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Great Bridge's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on April 3rd. They came out on top against Currituck County by a score of 2-0. Given Great Bridge's advantage in MaxPreps' soccer rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked eighth in Virginia, while Currituck County are ranked 171st in North Carolina) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Maya Carmona and Audrey Orrock scored both of Great Bridge's goals, bringing their combined season tally to ten goals.

Meanwhile, Nansemond River strolled into their game last Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Smithfield.

Great Bridge pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 11 goals over those four games. As for Nansemond River, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Great Bridge was able to grind out a solid win over Nansemond River in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 2-0. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
