Baseball Recap: Henry Clay Comes Up Short

Henry Clay dropped to 9-5 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Sayre Spartans by a score of 8-7. If the Blue Devils were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Spartans when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Sayre, they pushed their record up to 10-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

For Sayre's part, Banks Heinrich was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Heinrich has become a key player for Sayre: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Heinrich was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joaquin Acevedo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Cole Tackett also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

While Henry Clay had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
