Providence School is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will look to defend their home field against the Bolles Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
On Saturday, Providence School earned an 8-5 victory over John Carroll Catholic. That's two games straight that the Stallions have won by exactly three runs.
Grant Sheppard was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Gavin Duva was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Bolles made easy work of Menendez on Saturday and carried off an 8-2 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.
Bolles also got a great performance from Levi Pietschker as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave Pietschker a new career-high in strikeouts.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jackson Geist, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was James McCranie, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Bolles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Providence School pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bolles, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Providence School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bolles struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
