Baseball Recap: Bellwood-Antis Takes a Loss

Bellwood-Antis extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Dragons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Devils of the 5-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Hunter Kyle and Landon Sneath did some serious damage despite the final result: Kyle went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Sneath went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Bellwood-Antis is 2-1 when Sneath posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Cam Swogger was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

As for Central, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games.

On Central's side, they got a great performance from Mason Sparks as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts Sparks has posted since back in March.

At the plate, Jesse Muthler was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lukas Black, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Bellwood-Antis is taking a road trip to face off against Clearfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bison will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight. As for Central, they will welcome Forest Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dragons will need to watch out since the Rangers have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
