Football Recap: Scotch Plains-Fanwood Falls Despite Big Games from Daniel Mcardle and Logan Weiss + How To Watch

Scotch Plains-Fanwood lost against Hillside back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Raiders took a 17-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Comets. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Comets are ranked 114th).

Logan Weiss and Daniel McArdle certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Weiss threw for 148 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 78.6% of his passes, while McArdle picked up 87 receiving yards.

Even if they lost, Scotch Plains-Fanwood's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Nick Marranca, Paul Boyle, and Thomas Dowling, who each picked up one sack apiece. Scotch Plains-Fanwood got some further help from Callum Fynes: he made seven total tackles (3.0 for loss) and defended three passes.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Hillside, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Coming up, Scotch Plains-Fanwood will face off against Carteret at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hillside, they will challenge Somerville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers' defense has only allowed 14.5 points per game this season, so the Comets' offense will have their work cut out for them.
