Softball Recap: Geraldine Takes a Loss

If Geraldine was feeling good fresh off their 10-3 takedown of Weaver on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Ohatchee Indians by a score of 9-8 on Thursday. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2021.

Shyla Thompson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out 16 batters over nine innings while giving up six earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Amelia Cofield was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI. Sophie Bearden was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Geraldine's defeat dropped their record down to 24-17-1. As for Ohatchee, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 29-11.

As of now, neither Geraldine nor the Indians have any future games scheduled.
