Baseball Game Preview: Wellsville Lions vs. Haverling Rams

The Wellsville Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Haverling Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wellsville will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

On Monday, Wellsville made easy work of Hornell and carried off a 12-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Haverling can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Le Roy 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since May 3, 2024.

Dylan Wenban made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Haverling: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Asher Phenes, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Wellsville pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Haverling, their record is now 7-5.

Wellsville was able to grind out a solid win over Haverling in their previous matchup back in April, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
