Softball Recap: Beachwood Comes Up Short

Beachwood had lost five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it six. They fell just short of the Orange Lions by a score of 22-21. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-20 back in April.

Lily Grover was cooking despite her team's loss, going 5-for-6 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Amaya Brown was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

As for Orange, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games.

On Orange's side, Kelsey Lewis was a standout: she went 5-for-6 with one home run, five runs, and two stolen bases. Those five hits gave Lewis a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Utech, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and two stolen bases.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Beachwood will be taking part in a tournament against Tuslaw at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Orange, they will square off against Mayfield at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
