Softball Recap: Shallowater Snags 13th Victory in Last 15 Games

Shallowater won against Dimmitt last Tuesday with 16 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Idalou Wildcats 16-2. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 13 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Gracie Banks was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Shallowater let Kassidy Dutra and Phoenix Navejar run wild. Dutra went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Navejar went 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was Navejar's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Olivo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Shallowater is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Idalou, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

Looking ahead, Shallowater will take on Muleshoe at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mules will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. Idalou does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
