Basketball Recap: Wesley Chapel Comes Up Short

Wesley Chapel and Leesburg squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Wesley Chapel had to settle for second. They fell to the Leesburg Yellow Jackets 60-54. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 48th).

When it comes to explaining why Wesley Chapel lost, don't look at Sian Morris. Despite the final result, he went 9-for-11 to rack up 19 points and six assists. The game was Morris' fifth in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Ethan Hicks, who posted 12 points along with four steals and three blocks.

Wesley Chapel's loss dropped their record down to 20-9. As for Leesburg, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-7.

Wesley Chapel does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Leesburg, they will face off against Lecanto at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leesburg knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Lecanto likes a good challenge.
