Baseball Recap: Washington Find Success

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Washington ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past the South Mountain Jaguars 9-8. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Liam Bunstein was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Washington's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-7 when he doesn't). Austin Ashford was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Washington's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for South Mountain, they dropped their record down to 0-16 with the loss, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Washington will be playing at home against Sierra Linda at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Mountain, they will venture away from home to square off against Camelback at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.35 runs per game on average), something the Jaguars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
