Baseball Game Preview: Vela Sabercats vs. Sharyland Rattlers

The Vela Sabercats will challenge the Sharyland Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Vela 3.8, Sharyland 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Vela barely beat McAllen the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Sabercats put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 8-2 win on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sabercats.

David An looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Vela let Nick Guevara and Matthew Abundiz run wild. Guevara went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Abundiz scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Vela is 4-1 when Abundiz posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Rolando Solis, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Sharyland's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Pioneer by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Rattlers have suffered since May 3, 2024.

Nic Valdez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Fabrizio Salinas was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Vela's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Sharyland, their loss dropped their record down to 15-5-2.

Vela came out on top in a nail-biter against Sharyland when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Sabercats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rattlers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
