Basketball Recap: Dirigo Comes Up Short

Dirigo easily dispatched Oak Hill last Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Dirigo Cougars fell just short of the Mountain Valley Falcons by a score of 47-45 on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 49-30 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Dirigo lost, don't look at Abigail Luczynski. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. Luczynski's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Ni?o, who posted four points and eight boards.

The defeat snapped Dirigo's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-5 record. As for Mountain Valley, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-6.

Dirigo will welcome Sacopee Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dirigo is facing Sacopee Valley at the right time seeing as Sacopee Valley is stuck on a six-game losing streak. Mountain Valley has already played their next contest (against Hall-Dale), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
