Softball Recap: Lake Forest Comes Up Short

Lake Forest extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-20. They lost 14-4 to the Mundelein Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 back in April.

Lake Forest saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Teagan Stark, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Stark has launched this season.

As for Mundelein, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Mundelein's side, Bella Vega spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emily Courtney, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Devin Hill, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Lake Forest will take on Grayslake North at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mundelein, they will square off against Hersey at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
