Preview: Pine Forest Trojans vs. Overhills Jaguars
After five games on the road, Pine Forest is heading back home. The Pine Forest Trojans and the Overhills Jaguars will face off at 8:00 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Pine Forest is ranked 327th, while Overhills is ranked 323rd).
Pine Forest suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were beaten by Richmond 79-33. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Pine Forest has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Pine Forest got a solid performance out of Fredrick Logan, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Overhills posted their biggest win since December 5, 2023 on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 59-39 margin over Harnett Central. 59 seems to be a good number for Overhills as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Deshaun Barton was the offensive standout of the matchup as he scored 19 points along with six assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ej Stokes, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Pine Forest has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Overhills, they pushed their record up to 7-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Pine Forest and Overhills were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but Pine Forest came up empty-handed after a 70-69 loss. Can Pine Forest avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
