Preview: Douglass Astros vs. Carver Panthers
The Douglass Astros will be playing at home against the Carver Panthers at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Douglass will be strutting in after a victory while Carver will be coming in after a defeat.
Douglass came into Tuesday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Cedar Grove on Tuesday and snuck past 45-43.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Noah Treadwell and Emmanuel Green. Treadwell had a solid game and scored six points along with seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Green did his best for the losing side, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Carver's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Sandy Creek 74-20. While losing is never fun, Carver can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 452nd, while Sandy Creek is ranked fifth).
Douglass' win bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Carver, they dropped their record down to 3-16 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Douglass against Carver in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 62-29 win. Does Douglass have another victory up their sleeve, or will Carver turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
