Basketball Game Preview: Cottonwood Colts vs. Draper APA Eagles

The Cottonwood Colts and the Draper APA Eagles will round out the year against one another at at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Cottonwood took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Murray by a score of 56-46. Given the Colts' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Spartans are ranked 116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Draper APA). They blew past Intermountain Christian, posting an 81-32 win. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 21 points or more this season.

Cottonwood better keep an eye on Aaliyah Baldwin. She was instrumental in Draper APA's win, almost dropping a double-double on 27 points and nine assists. The matchup was Baldwin's 22nd in a row with at least ten points. Vanessa Moctezuma was another key player, going 7 for 15 on her way to 17 points and seven assists.

Draper APA's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 44.5 points. As for Cottonwood, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
