Football Recap: Zachariah Goodson Leads Stanhope Elmore's Defense on Friday + How To Watch

Stanhope Elmore was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against the Wetumpka Indians by a score of 35-28. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Indians on their field since October 4, 2019.

Stanhope Elmore didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Zachariah Goodson. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in each of the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season.

Wetumpka's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Charles Skipper, who threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 42 yards. Skipper has become a key player for the Indians: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. John Hudson Wingard was in the mix too, providing Wetumpka with two TDs.

Stanhope Elmore's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-3. As for Wetumpka, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stanhope Elmore will square off against Calera at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 35 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Wetumpka, they will take on Demopolis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
