Softball Recap: Jefferson Forest Cavaliers vs. Amherst County Lancers
After flying high against Lord Botetourt two weeks ago, Jefferson Forest came back down to earth. The Cavaliers fell just short of the Amherst County Lancers by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday. The loss was the Cavaliers' first of the season.
Amelia Long was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Jefferson Forest saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashleigh Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Having lost for the first time this season, Jefferson Forest fell to 8-1. As for Amherst County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-4.

Meanwhile, Amherst County is set to square off against their familiar foe Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
