The Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets will take on the Big Walnut Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mt. Vernon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Briggs get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Yellowjackets are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 17 straight.

Keely Pollard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Miranda Oswalt looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Carly Kennedy was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Gabby Beck was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Big Walnut waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Braves 15-4.
Like Mt. Vernon, Big Walnut also got a great game from a two-way player: Kennedy Reed. On the mound, Reed struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Sarah Adams struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. At bat, Reed got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, while Adams went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madi Clever, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Thornhill, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Big Walnut always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Mt. Vernon pushed their record up to 23-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Big Walnut, their victory bumped their record up to 15-12.
Mt. Vernon skirted past Big Walnut 10-9 when the teams last played back in May of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
