Recap: Oxford Chargers vs. Southaven Chargers
The Oxford Chargers pushed their score all the way to 70 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 78-70 to Southaven. Oxford lost against Southaven in their previous head to head back in February of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 63-59 score last time.
Southaven's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rodarius Donley led the charge by scoring 23 points along with 5 assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which Donley has scored at least 25% of Southaven's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Watkins, who scored 18 points.
Oxford's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Southaven, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Oxford will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Horn Lake at 7:30 p.m. Horn Lake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Oxford is ranked 30th). As for Southaven, they will take on Coahoma County at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Coahoma County will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
