Hoover and Sissonville are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. Hoover will welcome Sissonville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hoover will be strutting in after a win while Sissonville will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Monday, Hoover was able to grind out a solid victory over Wayne, taking the game 7-2. The win continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won six in a row.
Kaylyn Harper made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Sadi Wehrle was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Ayva Veltri also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Hoover was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Sissonville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-1 to Winfield, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Allison Jarrett was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Hoover's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Sissonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hoover hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Sissonville struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Hoover's way against Sissonville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Hoover made off with a 13-3 victory. Will Hoover repeat their success, or does Sissonville has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
