Preview: Florence Buffaloes vs. Cherokee Indians
Florence has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Cherokee Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Florence might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Clifton an easy 47-21 win. While losing is never fun, Florence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1484th, while Clifton is ranked 583rd).
Despite their defeat, Florence saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kaylie Hamm, who scored nine points, was perhaps the best of all. Emerson Herring was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, Cherokee lost to Brady at home by a decisive 40-24 margin two weeks ago.
Florence's loss was their eighth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-14. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.8 points per game. As for Cherokee, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
