Softball Recap: Liberty Takes a Loss

Liberty extended their losing streak to ten on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gretna Hawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Minutemen have suffered since March 15, 2024.

As for Gretna, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 17, 2024.

For Gretna's part, Alyssa Keesee made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Keesee was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Sophia Brooks was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Marihlyn East, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Gretna beat Liberty by a score of 3-1 later that day.
