Basketball Recap: St. George's Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

St. George has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 27.27 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They took a hard 64-50 fall against the Fullington Academy Trojans. St. George's has struggled against Fullington Academy recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Several St. George's players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jules Gotell, who posted 16 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Knoxie Burson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Fullington Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaye Beth Womble out in front who went 6 of 15 on her way to 20 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kathryn Akin, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 boards.

St. George's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-1. As for Fullington Academy, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. George's will square off against Piedmont Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fullington Academy, they will face off against Grace Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
