Volleyball Recap: Utica Triumphs

Utica hadn't done well against Richmond recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Chieftains came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 2-0. The Chieftains were shut out 2-0 the last time they took on the Blue Devils, so the Chieftains were just returning the favor.

Utica easily took the second set, but they let things get interesting in the other. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-15.

Utica had a senior duo take command as Claire Ponzio had 17 digs and two assists and Emily Adams had six digs and four aces. Ponzio is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last seven games she's played.

Utica's record is now 13-19-2. As for Richmond, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-25-5 record this season.

Utica didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Dryden on the 29th. As for Richmond, they will take on Algonac at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The last four games the Muskrats have played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
